AldiPower lives with his family in a terraced house in the middle-class Hamburg district of Langenhorn. Former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt lived just 100 metres away. He restores old vintage computers and electronic musical instruments from the 80s and 90s and is fascinated by the visionary zeitgeist and uniqueness of these devices. The imperfection of an old synthesiser has a very special mojo for the artist using it, which can never be replicated by software. With his Atari, AldiPower controls a huge arsenal of old hardware instruments and effects via MIDI. He has named the resulting music genre Crystal Wave, which incorporates elements of synthwave, chiptune, pop, funk, the Berlin School and 80s retrowave in general. Besides of that he plays and played the bass guitar and also electric guitar in quite some bands. Recently he focused to publish more Crystal Wave releases under his own artist name AldiPower.
“Das Reihenhaus” belongs to the Crystal Wave genre, is released on cassette tape and was mostly produced using genuine vintage hardware instruments and effects processors from the 80s and 90s. In this album AldiPower combined the original Commodore 64 SID sound, with phase distortion synthesis of a CZ-5000 and the digital warmth of an Ensoniq SD-1. Their imperfections give them soul and mojo. All MIDI sequencing was done using the original Cubase sequencer from 1992 on an Atari Mega STe with 4MB of RAM.
A Psychedelic Art Rock album. AldiPower plays one of the the guitars. This album was recorded in 2007 on a 16 tracks Tascam tape machine and mixed through a 24:8 Mackie mixer at the pbf Studio in Hamburg.
Schlepperballett (former Einwandfrei) is a Hamburg based trio with a long tradition playing German Folk Pop Songs. AldiPower plays the bass guitar here.
AldiPower plays the bass guitar at the originally Hamburg based funk band Funkverbindung. Additionally a powerful female voice, guitar, drums and 3 horns are forming this long existing group.
